• The study coordinated by L*3 aims at renovating Palazzo TAMI in Viganello, transforming it into a space open to exchange and dialogue, with innovative and attractive contents linked in particular to science, art, digital innovation, research and education.

Lugano Living Lab, in collaboration with USI, IDSIA, ATED-Ict Ticino, L’ideatorio-USI and Impact Hub Ticino, has embraced and developed this idea that encourages the active participation of citizens, associations, research centers, public and private companies in the area.

The building designed by architect Rino Tami will host the Atelier dei venti, an intergenerational and multidisciplinary space for activities dedicated to innovation, technology and society, with laboratories, artistic ateliers, a digital area, meeting rooms, workshops and much more.
The Atelier dei venti will also operate in support of the training of social enterprises active in the area to promote employment and professional integration.
The ex-Swisscom building will also host the temporary headquarters of the services currently located in the ex-Municipal House of Viganello, which will be demolished in order to build a new school center. These spaces will be offered in the future for the development of the digital hub.
In the basement will be located the infrastructure of the data center of the City of Lugano.

  • This project, which the City of Lugano intends to develop, stems from an intuition of Luca Maria Gambardella, full professor at the Faculty of Computer Science at Usi and member of the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence Studies: in order to realize in Lugano a meeting place where artists, scientists, writers and young people can confront each other, share ideas, initiatives, proposals and skills. “A physical place where the winds of science, art, culture and digital awareness can become a vortex, refresh ideas and generate new ones”.The project is open and ready to engage with the neighborhood and its residents.
