The New Chameleons: simulation as a paradigm for the digital humanities
What frontiers and challenges do so-called ‘transformers’ open up for the digital humanities? On the one hand, LLMs, chatbots, algorithmic assistants and AI ‘secret agents’ enable new experiments between simulation and creativity, for the regeneration of the past and the design of the future in the humanities. On the other, they impose a critical reflection to ensure that these increasingly ‘intelligent’ tools are compatible - or ‘alignable’ - with the objectives of a digital humanism that does not renounce the cognitive and ethical values consubstantial to traditional humanistic thought.
Prof. Massimo Riva, Interim Chair and Director of Graduate Studies, Brown University

17:30-18:00 Talk
AI for Art and Archives: the Digital Revolution
How Artificial Intelligence is revolutionising the management, preservation and enjoyment of art archives and works of art. We will talk about semantic image recognition in order to optimise research, a rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence that enables not only the identification of objects and scenes within an image, but also the understanding of their meaning and relationships. A journey to the origins of virtual reality and artificial intelligence between simulation and adaptive capacity.
